Cha xi could be used in three ways,
- Cleaning teacups. Pour boling water water into the bowl and soak the Gongfu teacups to make it hygienic.
- Keep temperature. Pour in hot water and place cups and teapot to keep them warm. Warmed tea cups will make tea more fragrant.
- Receptacles for used tea leaves and waste water.
